Daisy’s Birthday Trip – Turning 6!

2016-03-04 17.22.57

Daisy Doll is turning 6!! It’s hard to believe that six years ago she joined our family. She is so spunky, sparkly, fun, loving, affectionate, sweet, determined, outspoken, and uniquely her. She has a presence that never goes unnoticed. Our family is definitely more fun because of her.

We did her birthday trip a week early because that is when the special surprise was available.

We started the trip by taking the train downtown to meet Adam. His office is up there, and it made no sense for him to drive down and get us to drive all the way back up. Besides, it added to the fun of the journey.

There was a lot to see out the window. I love this picture.

We took her to Texas de Brazil for dinner, which was her choice. We love meat in our family!

The birthday girl got to choose her dessert as well. Adam and I were too full to order our own, and we assumed that she wouldn’t mind giving us each a bite from this gigantic piece of cake. We were wrong. I eventually convinced her to give me a bite, and it was good.

We love these birthday trips and so do the kids. It’s a chance to give them special one-on-one attention.

After dinner we went and checked into our hotel to get some sleep. Adam and I didn’t mind going to bed early because we knew she’d be awake early.

Daisy didn’t know what her birthday surprise activity was for the day, but it started out with a present from Gran and Granddad.

Nothing like a purple sweatshirt with a rhinestone crown on it to make a birthday girl feel like a princess! Daisy’s favorite color is purple, and her other favorite color is sparkly! Gran also loves sparkles, so it was the perfect gift.

The weather had been beautiful and in the 60s all week, and I was worried that it would be too hot to wear it. As much as I love warm weather, I was glad that the clouds rolled in and made it a little chilly. It was perfect sweatshirt weather.

We took her to brunch at a restaurant called Eggs in the City. We all enjoyed our breakfast. The food was great and the atmosphere was fashionably quirky.

Daisy LOVES her daddy. If you haven’t noticed in the pictures so far, you will as we go along.

After brunch we had some time before the surprise, so we took her shoe shopping. We found her some colorful sneakers.

FINALLY we went to the surprise. Daisy got to hand over the tickets to…DISNEY FROZEN ON ICE!!!! This child is a Frozen fanatic. She tells people she is Queen Elsa because her hair is the same color, and so are her eyes. She wears her Elsa dress all the time, sings all the songs, watches the movie on repeat on her tablet when we travel cross country for 2 days each way to Tennessee.

She was pretty confused because we’ve never done a Disney on Ice production, so she had no idea what was going on. It worked out to be perfect timing that it was in town the week before Daisy’s birthday! I knew it was the perfect activity for her birthday trip. We had awesome seats on the 4th row.

A little Daisy and Daddy love fest.

2016-03-05 11.18.22

She would have been perfectly happy to go on this trip alone with Daddy, but I was allowed to come along.

2016-03-05 12.38.29

We were there early, so we had to wait for a while. Nothing like laying across our laps to pass the time. I wondered if it would be cold in the arena because, um, ice, but it was no colder than it would usually be in there for any other event.

2016-03-05 12.21.58

The pictures aren’t great, but there is Elsa! Poor lighting + moving target + camera phone = a blurry mess.

2016-03-05 12.49.26

And Olaf!! He moves more slowly.

2016-03-05 12.50.56

As wiggly as she was before it started, she was rock. still. the whole time. She didn’t move. At the beginning when there is singing and dancing that the audience is supposed to participate in, she didn’t move. Her mouth was open the whole 2 hours. At first we weren’t sure if she liked it, but she was mesmerized.

It was cool to see the snow monster inflate. He was huge.

2016-03-05 13.00.41

Jaw open. The whole time.

After the show she was pretty well done. She was ready to go home, even though we had another 4 hours left of her trip. We had done a lot, though, and if she’s done, she’s done. We did go to lunch at the Red Iguana for some awesome Mexican food before heading home.

It was a great trip and we had a lot of fun with our sweet, fun, spunky girl. Happy 6th birthday Daisy Doll! We are grateful to have you. You add so much sparkle to our lives!
