What a Difference 4 months Can Make

The kids had their 4-month check-up (and shots) on Tuesday. The weights are:
/
/
/
/Kimball 12.5 pounds (his smallest was 2 pounds 12 ounces)
/
/
/
/Sawyer 11 pounds (his smallest was 3 pounds 7 ounces)
/
/
/
/Brinlee 10 pounds 3 ounces (her smallest was 2 pounds 15 ounces)
/
/
/
/The doctor is so thrilled with their weight gain, and so are we. They are even on the weight charts for their actual age (5th percentile). They are meeting their 4-month milestones.
/
/
/
/They have all found their hands. Kimball licks his hands the most. He enjoys them like an ice cream cone. He rotates his fist and enjoys all sides, slowly and leisurely. It’s amazing to watch them as they discover themselves. They also have control over their arms now and intentionally swat at things (including the bottle when they are finished).

/
/Brinlee and Kimball are off their monitors now. Because Sawyer had an episode as late as Christmas, the doctor wants him to stay on it for another month. I cannot wait until that is over. We’re just glad to have 2 of them free.

/
/They are all 3 very happy babies. They laugh and coo and smile. Sawyer is a big time flirt. He works the shoulders when he’s cooing at you, acting all bashful and coy. It’s so hard in the middle of the night if he wakes up when we’re changing a diaper and wants to flirt with us. We’re not supposed to engage them because they will start to think it’s play time and will wake up on other nights to play. But how do you resist that? He’s oh-so-cute and I can’t not smile at him. It’s impossible. He also has his own special way of sucking. He does this wave thing with this tongue and pushes the nipple into the roof of his mouth. He can grin at you while he’s sucking on his bottle. It’s a unique talent.

/Brinlee loves to kick and play on the floor mat. She kicks so high she gets her bum up off the floor. She must have some rock hard abs. She also likes it when Adam holds her up in the air over his head like she’s flying. She smiles all the time. Brinlee is following her brothers in the balding, but at least the boys have new hair growing in, so we know there is hope. Brinlee has decided that she likes to lie on the changing table and kick while she eats. She gets the arms and legs going. She always looks like she is dancing.

/Kimball is just a very easy, happy, mellow baby. He smiles and coos a lot, sleeps well, eats well, plays well, poops well. He is a very low maintenance baby, and very cuddly. He just melts into your chest. He purrs really loudly when he eats. It sounds like this: mmmmmmmmgulpmmmmmmmmmgulpmmmmmmmmmgulp. Then when he finishes his bottle he lets out a very satisfied sigh, like you just fed him the most delicious meal he’s every had. Every time.

/Daddy’s Note:  Today I spent about twenty minutes at work discussing various ways of propping a pacifier in a baby’s mouth.  Who would have thought…
/
/
/
/They have graduated from being bathed in the hospital bins to the hammock in the real baby bathtub. They like to lounge in the hammock and kind of kick the water. They’ve always liked the bath, but I think they like it more now since we don’t have to keep a death grip on them to keep them upright. I hated bathing them in those little tubs. These kids are pretty slippery.

/Here are some photos for a perspective of how much they have grown. Since we are quarantined until April, we can’t get professional photos taken. I have done the best I can with zero training and zero talent for photography.

/April 4 months later. Not quite back to her old self, but pretty close. This is our Triple Decker stroller that I previously mentioned. It’s a beast to drive, but mommy needed to get outside.

/For some reason, each grandmother independently purchased a prison uniform for our sons. I decided to take a mugshot.
