We’ve been so sad having to leave Sawyer at the hospital every day. To make it worse, I imagined that he just lay in his crib so lonely when one of us wasn’t there to hold and love him. That particular worry has been laid to rest. Apparently, Sawyer is the Playboy of the PICU. The nurses go on and on about how cute he is (and he is!). They hold and love on him all day and all night. They take turns. He is one of few babies on the floor, and he is not fragile, so he can be out of his bed and held pretty much all they want. It makes me happy that he is getting love and affection, even if it’s not from us. We can’t be there all the time, and I don’t want him to be lonely.

/Last night Adam and I went to visit him in the hospital. I gave him his reflux meds and he choked on it. He didn’t just choke on it, he had a major episode that required lots of stimulation and oxygen. He would start to come up (we can see his heart rate and oxygen saturation numbers on a monitor) and then go back down again. It was horrible. It felt like hours, but it was really minutes. The doctor called this morning and said they want to keep him at least 3-4 more days. They want to make sure he doesn’t have another spell like that. He said if he has little dips that he self recovers after a few seconds, they won’t count those against him, but episodes like this are too scary and serious.

/A week from tomorrow is the babies’ due date. They should have been born on December 20 (that would be 40 weeks). It seems crazy that they will be 9 weeks old on their due date.

/Kimball and Brinlee continue to do well. They are all really very good babies. They really only cry if they are hungry, still have a bubble, or occasionally when the reflux is really bad. We actually started them on Prilosec for the reflux. The Zantac just wasn’t doing it. Sawyer has done well on it, so we asked for the other 2 to be switched. They miss their brother and he misses them. Although after the only-child treatment in the PICU, he may ask to be adopted by the hospital. A boy could get used to that kind of attention.

/Grandma (Adam’s mom) went home on Sunday after a week of faithful duty. Gran (my mom) came for her tour of duty. She’ll be here for the next couple of weeks. Brinlee started her life of delinquincy and juvenile pranks, and Gran was her first victim. She earned her first lecture about hazing. Hazing is illegal, Brinlee. She thought Gran needed to be broken in. While she was changing Brinlee’s diaper, Brinlee decided to preview her upcoming diaper all over Gran’s hand. Poor Gran. Bad Brinlee.
