Well, as I posted last night, April started to turn the corner yesterday evening and was very much improved this morning, seen by her color, her lab work, and her attitude. After a long morning of eating, getting cleaned up, and moving around some, she was able to make the trek upstairs to visit her new little ones. I will post pictures of this first encounter later tonight but here is the latest update:

/Sawyer – He continues to do well but likes to forget to breathe (apnea). All the babies are showing signs of apnea to varying degrees, which is very common for their gestational age. They have had to turn up Sawyer’s oxygen amount also today as he was running a little low. He is the most active of the bunch and gave his mother a nice long stare when she came to visit. His jaundice level was up today but not enough to be put under the lamps.

/Kimball – Kimball continues to do well on his feedings and has done well with his breathing even after the pressure was turned down on his C-PAP yesterday. He is still in his isolette to help maintain his body temperature (the other two are on tables under heat lamps). He gave his mom some good squeals and finger hold when she arrived. His jaundice level had also increased today but not enough to require the lamps.

/Brinlee – Brinlee has received her first feedings very well, although she is receiving a smaller dose htan her brothers (different doctors using different methods to accustom the body to eating). She is digesting all that she is receiving. Her breathing has also continued to improve and they hope to have her off all assistance this next week. She is still under the jaundice lamps but has shown improvement in her color (Jaundice makes them look yellow). April and Brinlee had a great time together holding hands and Brinlee really woke up with her eyes open for a good ten minutes and just stared at April and I.Â

/Overall, all three are doing great for their gestational age. They will continue to have the breathing and eating worked on for the next while. They are closely monitored (each nurse only has a few patients to watch) and hopefully they will be moved into the same room soon.
