From David to Goliath

Kimball was the smallest at 3 pounds 2 ounces when they were born. At his lowest weight he was 2 pounds 12 ounces. Now that they are 16 weeks, he is pushing 12 pounds! He outweighs Sawyer by a pound and Brinlee by 2. They will be 4 months next Tuesday. That’s unbelievable! They all have fat rolls and are getting so heavy. They are even wearing the 3-month size clothes now.

/They are smiling and cooing all the time now. It just melts your heart! They stop in the middle of the feeding to grin and coo and flirt. They are all quite smitten with their own reflections. The swing, a bouncy seat and a play mat all have mirrors, and they just love to smile and coo and flirt with themselves. What’s really funny is when they start to fuss a little and the baby in the mirror starts yelling back at them, they just get madder and start yelling more at the mean baby making faces at them.

/Kimball has gone from sounding like a billy goat to a piggy. It’s hard not to laugh when his crying sounds like this “squeal, snort, snort, waaaah.” These are not small snorts. They are loud and proud.Â

/The last 2 days we have gone on walks around the neighborhood. Mommy needs to get out of the house more! I often go a week or more without seeing daylight. That is not good. We’re becoming vampires. Yesterday was 70 degrees and sunny. Today was 62 and overcast. We went out in the triplet stroller. It is pulling to the right really badly, and I got a serious workout trying to keep it from running up the curb. We did 2 laps around the neighborhood (before you start thinking what a powerhouse I am, there are only 32 houses in the neighborhood), and it seriously winded me. I am still recovering from bed rest and the muscle atrophy. Imagine pushing a lawn mower that pulls to the right really badly around the neighborhood. It’s worse than that. I’d rather push the lawn mower. The kids seem to like it. Brinlee HATES the carseat, but once we get going she calms down and looks around and goes to sleep. Yesterday when we got back in the house, I pulled back Kimball’s sunshade and his eyes were open so wide I could see the white above and below his iris. His seat is at the front so he got the full view. Talk about an eyeful! His eyes stayed that way for 5 minutes after we got home. I really broadened his horizons. He also took the brunt of all the wheelie popping I was doing to try to keep the stroller straight. The wheels don’t pivot, so to straighten, I have to lift the front. I was sure it would make him spit up his whole bottle, but it didn’t.

/Chez Grow is still open for business. Our most recent guest was Uncle Jonny (April’s brother). He visited last Thursday-Saturday from Vancouver, Canada. The kids loved him. He fed and played with them, but now that I think about it, he somehow managed not to change a diaper……hmmm. How did that happen? We had a great visit and are looking forward to him coming back.Â

/Grandma (Adam’s mom) was also recently here for 2 weeks helping to care for the kids. She was a wonderful help and they loved spending time with her. She mercifully extended her trip a few days so she would be here when they got their synegis shots (it protects them from RSV, a respiratory illness that is very dangerous for preemies). They get these shots once a month during cold and flu season. The last time they had them April’s mom and Aunt Patty were here and it was a rough 24 hours. They basically cried the whole time, and we cried with them. We had about 2 hours sleep each and were ready for reinforcements. Adam was at Disneyworld (he claims it was for training. Training on a rollercoaster? Sign me up!), so the three of us did what we could. This time we were ready and gave them Tylenol before. It went a lot better.

/Adam is already trying to teach them to steam roll. Sawyer has Kimball pinned, but once Kimball figures out that he weighs more, I think that wil change.

/Uncle Jonny holding Brinlee, Kimball and Sawyer. What we didn’t get a picture of is Uncle Jonny dropping Brinlee onto the counch. Okay, he didn’t really drop her, it’s more like she fell off. She was very stunned. He obviously was not aware that the Princess had graced him with her presence. He needs to show a little more gratitude and respect next time. Assuming she grants him a next time.

/As a final note, I promise to update the blog more often. We’ve been fine tuning our routine the last month or so, and life has been a little busy.
