Well, here is an update for October 21, 2006. I turned 28 today as we continued to welcome the triplets into this world. Didn’t think that I’d have three by this time in my life, especially considering that we were married only 3.5 years ago. We feel very blessed to have Kimball, Sawyer, and Brinlee here with us and look forward to when we can all be together.  I apologize that the pictures are so small and am working on trying to fix that.

/Update on April – April has had a slightly rougher hospital stay than we would have liked. From feeling more pain during the C-section that was expected to still suffering from some of the symptoms and medicines associated with the preeclampsia (toxemia). She came off the Magnesium Sulfate this morning, which had been causing her to be consistently tired and out of it. They also moved her back down to the LH part of the women’s center (she had moved to the normal post-partum area late last night) as her liver enzymes had not yet decreased (which is not abnormal for a woman with preeclampsia). The doctors and nurses really feel that the next 24 to 48 hours will be the tail end of all these issues and that she will start feeling much better. She has yet to see the live versions of the photos and videos that I have brought her, which has her a little down but it is a priority for all of us.

/Brinlee Ruth – Brinlee has had a very good day. She was placed under the ultraviolt lights as they detected jaundice in her system. She was, however, taken off the C-PAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) unit, which has been helping her keep her lungs open. She now has a small nose unit that provides a small amount of oxygen but she is basically breathing on her own. She will be fed her first food via a tube this evening, which is also a very good step in the right direction. They took off her cap (FYI, the caps are done by size so don’t interpret anything by the color as Brinlee has a blue cap and Kimball has a pink cap–Sawyer has a blue cap) so we saw that she has a full head of dark hair and still has lots of the fuzzy white hair that covers the babies while they are in the womb and that will drop off in the next month or so.

/Kimball Robert – Not to be outdone by his sister, Kimball also had a very good day, receiving his first tube feedings. The first feeding was 4cc (about a teaspoon) and he did well with it. The second feeding he only digested about 1cc of the 4 (the other three were removed right before the third feeding as that helps them judge how much the babies are digesting). I actually got to hold the syringe used to feed him his third feeding as they use gravity to let it down the tube straight into this stomach. We peeked under his pink cap and saw that he also had a decent amount of dark hair. Kimball has had a small amount of sleep apnea, but not enough to concern anyone as it is normal for someone of his gestation to have some. I also changed Kimball’s diaper (may be the first diaper I have ever changed) and I was glad it wasn’t poopy, just wet. He is still breathing very well and had his C-PAP turned down. We’re still trying to decide which side of the family has given these kids, especially Kimball, long fingers.

/Sawyer Anderson – Last, but definitely not least as he outweighs his siblings, Sawyer had a very good day also, receiving his first tube feeding this afternoon. (When the babies start tube feeding, they move to three hour schedules and will be fed on that schedule.) His C-PAP was also turned down this afternoon as he continued to breathe very well. As of now, he has no indication of Jaundice (neither does Kimball).  Sawyer (perhaps like his dad) likes to be spread out as seen in his pictures and is oft seen stretching all the way out. No fetal position for him like his siblings like. Also like his dad, he currently has blonde hair.

/All three are vocal (thankfully not very loud) but enough to get your attention or to tell you that you are bugging them. They also all like to move around and often will reposition themselves right after the nurse puts them in a position they don’t like.

/As for dad, I’m just moving between mom and kids with the goal of getting her upstairs to see the babies. Few things seem real to April unless she can touch and see them. I haven’t starved to death yet, but I also haven’t showered in two days…Anyone want to come visit me?
