Sweet Sawyer Needs Prayers

Since we’ve been home Sawyer has had several serious apnea episodes, sometimes turning gray or blue. Thank goodness for those monitors. Sometimes we were right there and didn’t see it. Their pediatrician received the download report from the monitor yesterday and was very concerned. She called and said that if he had 2 more serious episodes in 24 hours to take him to the children’s hospital emergency room. Shortly after that he had a big episode. 45 minutes later another one. We started gathering things together to go to the hospital and he kept having them. He had another one in the waiting room and another while the ER doctor was examining him. They put him on oxygen and a dextrose drip. He hadn’t eaten since 3:30, but they wouldn’t let him eat. Unbelievably, he only cried when they messed with him. He didn’t cry for hunger. They decided not to let him eat last night and see if he had any episodes. If not, that would indicate that reflux is the main culprit. It was absolutely heartbreaking to have to leave him there. He is in a private room that has this little fold out chair so parents can sleep over. They have showers for parents to use too. But we have 2 more at  home that need us too, so we are going to take turns going to sit with him.

/When they were all together at the hospital, it was comforting to know they had each other for company and comfort. Leaving him by himself was so hard. He’s used to having company.

/He was finally given some food this morning, but they could only get him to take .5 an ounce, when he should be taking 2 ounces minimum. He had 1 episode this morning that did not require stimulation.
