The New Truth

So today our usual NP was back. She is always much slower and more cautious with the babies. She also sees them regularly and knows their history. Today she and the neonatologist sat down and reviewed their charts together. They decided that Brinlee and Kimball are ready to go home on Saturday. We get to decide if we want monitors or not. They think Sawyer will be a few days behind them, but less than a week. He still has to mature and get control of his suck-swallow-breathe. He did do much better with his feedings today, though. It breaks my heart to leave him alone in that crib. He’ll be so lonely. Since he’s always in the middle he’s used to having someone on either side of him.

/Today they passed the carseat test. They have to sit in a carseat for one hour without having an episode. It’s to make sure they can sit in that position and breathe well. We didn’t bother to do Sawyer because he isn’t going home that soon, and the test has to be done within 7 days of going home or it expires.

/The boys were circumcised today. I cried starting when they told us the doctor was there to do it until after they came back. I felt terrible for sending them off to the slaughter. I even made Adam sign the forms because I just couldn’t do it. I apologized to the babies. At least they do it in another room. They don’t really want parents around. I held them before and after.

/The nesting went well. Adam took the day off to come do that and the car seat test. It did help us realize that we know how to care for them. We learned how to give them their vitamins and Zantac. We also got some pointers on putting them in their carseats. We still have to learn how to put in the thickeners and calorie formula in their breastmilk. Lots to do to get us ready.
