..because Caisen is on the move! Caisen got big today. It was a very distinct change that happened. Tonight he was on the floor in the middle of the family room, and suddenly he was off by the wall. Then we got to watch how it happened. Caisen has figured out the walrus drag. He puts his arms out in front, drags himself up and over. It kind of looks like the breast stroke. And he kept doing it. Again and again and again. It’s not just that. His motor skills changed today. Instead of benignly fiddling with the toys, he was actively interacting with them. Instead of just playing with what happened to be within reach, he was going after things he wanted to play with. Instead of clumsily manhandling things, he was maneuvering them and manipulating them. Tonight he was pushing around a shake n go car, dragging himself to catch up and pushing some more. The car wasn’t getting away from him. He had it under control. He was very absorbed in his activity. I was so proud watching him, and at the same time very sad. Today he made a huge transition from helpless infant to in-control baby. Caisen might be my last baby, and I actually cried thinking that he could be my last and that phase of my life could be over, even though there are days I can’t wait for him to be as independent as the others.

/It is also very interesting to watch his mannerisms and habits and how they resemble those of his siblings. When he’s sleeping, Caisen sometimes shoves his arms under his belly and self-swaddles. Sawyer has done that since he was an infant. Kimball sucks his first right finger when he sleeps or when he’s very upset. Caisen chews his thumb. Brinlee has a right eyebrow twitch when she smiles, and Caisen has it too.

/I love my sweet Caisen baby. I’ll love my sweet Caisen big boy too. It’s just hard to see them grow up. I never understood it until I experienced it.
