/Poor Sawyer.  Stuck in the middle of two rambunctious siblings who are always escaping their swaddles and wildly swinging their arms and legs everywhere–yes, even into their bigger brother.  He has been quite tolerant of these actions for some time now, but he appears to have awakened from his tolerance and innocence during our most recent visits.

/Some of the abusings he has withstood that we forgot to mention: Brinlee grabbing his nose and trying to rip it off his face (he howled and the nurse freed him). Kimball throwing up down his back. Smacks to the face. Involuntary removal of his feeding tube (he prefers to reserve that pleasure for himself). Brinlee sucking on the back of his head. It doesn’t matter which way he turns, someone is literally in his face and letting him know it. I’m sure there have been other encounters we haven’t seen or heard about.

/The nurse made an effort to separate them with beanie babies and create a little buffer zone, but it wasn’t enough.

/Anyway, back to our currently broadcasting program SAWYER STRIKES BACK.  At least with Kimball.  During our daily visit today, I (dad) had both Kimball and Sawyer in the crib and was in the process of trying to swaddle them.  Apparently he wasn’t fast enough and Kimball got some good kicks/hits on Sawyer, so I decided to swaddle Kimball first (not that they don’t escape from their blankets after about two minutes).  Well, as soon as I had Kimball swaddled, Sawyer opened up on him on with rapid fire kicks and a grab to the face.  Sweet revenge.

/Kimball, not to be completely wasted in the first round, escaped once again and the slap fight commenced (they were open-handed fighting so as to not leave any marks).  Although there was no clear winner, April and I were quite amused.Â

/They all had hearing tests yesterday and all passed (it is only a pass/fail test) and they are expected to start trying to bottle-feed early this next week.  They all continue to do well and seem to be having less episodes of apnea and bradicardia.  Another set of triplets has joined them in the preemie nursery (although they are still in separate isolettes).  The new triplet mother has been following our blog from the beginning and has found it quite helpful.
