Can It Really Be True?

Today the doctor said again he intends to discharge the babies in about a week. He hasn’t distinguished a difference among them, so I guess he’s talking about sending them home all on the same day. It’s very common for them to send the babies home at different times because they often progress at different rates. The doctor is progressing them at the same time, so maybe they are coming on the same day.

/The babies had their eye exams today and passed. They also received their hepatitis B shots. Each of them gained another 2-ish ounces.

/They also did better breastfeeding tonight. I think the work with the bottle is really helping them with their suck-swallow-breathe technique and understanding what to do with food. Their bottle feedings were increased to 3 a day, plus 1 breastfeeding. The doctor said he will probably increase them a bottle a day unless they have problems.

/As mentioned before, they are anemic. If they show anemic in their blood tests on Tuesday, they will give them a hormone to help them produce red blood cells. The doc said that the fatigue from the anemia probably interferes with their bottle feeding. He thinks that once they overcome it, they will have the energy to be more efficient feeders.

/Another milestone is that they came off the caffeine on Friday and haven’t really had any episodes of apnea or bradycardia. The few they have had are for a few seconds, and are while they are awake and actively moving, so they suspect it’s just them yawning or stretching or moving in a way to interfere with the monitors.
